TSH
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) or thyrotropin is a glycoprotein secreted by the thyrotropic cells of the anterior pituitary. Its main function is the regulation of the synthesis and secretion of the thyroid hormones. TSH level in serum is the most sensitive indicator of thyroid gland functional disorder. The determination of TSH can be used for the aid in diagnosis of thyroid disorders and to monitor TSH levels following T4 replacement treatment in hypothyroidism or antithyroid treatment in hyperthyroidism.
