5a-Dihydrotestosterone (5a-DHT) is an androgen, which is required for the development and maintenance of primary and secondary sexual characteristics in males, and is responsible for the development of secondary sexual hair in females. Its measurement is used for the investigation of hirsutism in women and 5a-reductase deficiency.
