hCG screening
Human choriogonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein which is produced in the human organism during both physiological (pregnancy) and pathological processes (e.g. chorio-adenoma, chorio-carcinoma etc.). Its determination can be used, in conjunction with other screening markers (AFP, uE3, …), in risk assessment of Down syndrome (trisomy 21) in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy.
