Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a glycoprotein with heterogeneous molecule. CEA determination is used namely in diagnostics and above all in monitoring of colorectal carcinoma therapy, and other tumors as well.. Elevated concentrations of CEA are found also in patients with tumors of breast, testis, lungs etc., or in benign hepatobiliary diseases, inflammatory diseases and in smokers. The determination of CEA may be used for primary diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of different types of cancer.
