Anti R-TSH
The determination of circulating anti-TSH receptor autoantibodies (anti-rTSH) is useful in the diagnosis and follow-up of Graves¢ disease. It is also helpful in the investigation of neonatal thyrotoxicosis.
Circulating anti-TSH receptor autoantibodies (anti-rTSH) is a group of related immunoglobulins that bind to thyroid cell membranes at or near the TSH-receptor. In general, these antibodies demonstrate substantial heterogenity. Some anti-rTSH cause thyroid stimulation, whereas others decrease thyroid secretion via blocking of TSH action, and third type of anti-rTSH has no effect on thyroid secretion activity. The presence of anti-rTSH is typical for Graves¢ disease, bat may appear in other autoimune thyroid disorders, too.
