ACTH
Adrenocorticotropic hormone is a polypeptide secreted by the basophile cells of anterior pituitary. ACTH stimulates adrenal production of steroids, particularly cortisol. ACTH determination is useful to reveal abnormalities of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, for the diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome, Addison’s disease, pituitary and adrenal adenoma.
