GH

Growth hormone (GH) is secreted by the somatotropic cells of the anterior pituitary. It stimulates growth of soft tissues and bone directly and through the action of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). The measurement of GH is indicated in the diagnosis of growth hormone deficiency in children and pituitary tumors in adults. The determination of GH can be used in diagnosis of acromegaly and GH deficiency, and for monitoring treatment of acromegaly.
