hCG

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) belongs to the glycoprotein hormone family and is composed of two non-covalently associated subunits a and b. In urine, b-core fragment is also found. The determination of hCG in blood or urine is the main method for diagnosis of pregnancy and pregnancy-related disorders and enables the diagnosis of Down’s syndrome in the fetus. HCG is also highly useful marker for placental and testicular trophoblastic tumours and some non-tropohoblastic tumors, too.
